Studio classes

an in-depth experience

The All-of-us Express Children's Theatre Studio Class is an in-depth theatre experience with a focus on one piece of media and the accompanying script version. These small-cast productions are aimed at older participants and allow the actors to do some analysis and character development.

Recent examples include:
  • Fahrenheit 451, where the group explored Ray Bradbury's novel and brought the adaptation to life in an intimate setting with the audience on stage surrounding the actors.
  • Twelve Angry Jurors, which originated as a 1957 film and which the actors updated for contemporary audiences.
  • The Little Prince, which was adapted from a beloved French children's book and which the participants rehearsed on Zoom and performed outdoors during the pandemic.

Students in the class work with their director to explore the theme(s), tone, and message of the script. They work collaboratively to block each production using minimal sets, props, and costumes.

The Studio Class typically rehearses on Saturday mornings from January to May, so it does not conflict with main stage shows. Note that a participant does not have to have a crew point accrued in order to audition for a Studio Class.
