Presents: Cowabunga!

Fair Play 2002

The "Fair Play" project began when All-of-us Express applied for and received an Agricultural Fair Artists Residency Program grant, administered by the Michigan Association of Fairs & Exhibitions (a non-profit organization for the advancement of fairs and allied interests). This grant, funded through MCACA, enabled us to produce a play for performance at several county fairs during the summer of 2002.

From our point of view, Fair Play was much like Storybook Story Theatre (SBST), except that we did not have the long lead time to find participating cast. (SBST sends out letters to prospective participants in December; with this project we did not know for certain we had the grant until after the Wizard of Oz auditions in late March.)

In spite of the short lead time, we were able to pull together a cast and production team to write the script, choreograph combat, direct, rehearse, gather props, make costumes, and take the show on the road! See photos from rehearsal.

Sorry You Missed Us!

spaceship All dates on which each fair was open are shown, but we did not perform every day at every fair. A few performances were canceled because of inclement weather.

The Fair Play Traveling Troupe consisted of the Director, an adult driver (or two) and five young performers who also made costumes, props, set and helped with writing the script. Several other young people helped with script writing and costuming.
